CHILDREN’S AND YOUNG ADULT SERVICES

Author's Visit by Meena Kothandaraman
We had a good turnout on February 18th to hear children's book author Meena Kothandaraman read from and discuss her new book, Can You Say My Name?. A Canadian born to Indian parents, Ms. Kothandaraman now lives in the U.S. She is an accomplished musician in the Classical Indian style and an instructor at Bentley University. This is her first book about what it is like to grow up balancing two cultures. Ms. Kothandaraman's next book is due to be released in October.

Ms. Kothandaraman graciously donated a copy of Can You Say My Name? to our Library - look for it on display in the Children's Room.

New in the Main Library Children's Room
We are compiling information of interest to local families in our "Community Connections" file. The file, which is right inside the door on the table in front of the librarians' desks, includes handouts for such activities and events as:
  • Childcare - Help Wanted
  • Childcare - Services Offered
  • Children's Health
  • Children's Theatre
  • Holiday Events
  • Language Instruction
  • Local Preschools
  • Youth Athletics

If you are sponsoring a local event or activity and you would like to make the information available to library patrons, stop by the Children's Room and we can add your event/activity to our file.

The Children’s Department offers storytimes, crafts, an annual teddy bears’ picnic, a dedicated summer program, and other events throughout the year. Pre-registration may be required for some events.
