CHILDREN’S AND YOUNG ADULT SERVICES

We Have Tickets to the Big E
The "Big E" in West Springfield, MA runs from September 17 - October 10. We have two tickets with a value up to $15.00 each. As a point of reference, an adult admission costs $15.00, and a child's ticket costs $10.00. The Big E offers a daily parade, as well as BMX stunt shows, auto shows, rides, the Big E Super Circus, a petting zoo, stilt walkers, a horse show, butter sculpture and more! We have only two tickets, which may be claimed by one family. Tickets may not be reserved over the phone. It is fine to call ahead to see if they are still available, but you must come into Main Library Children's Room if you want the tickets. First come, first served.

Crafters Construct Origami Crane Mobiles on June 22nd
The History Room was a hive of creativity as eight kids ages 7 - 9 made mobiles from a tree branch, fishing line, and origami paper cranes. While aesthetically pleasing, the use of a tree branch for the 'base' of the mobile also was in synch with this year's Summer Reading theme "gogreen at your Library." One participant even took her mobile home via her bike! Here are some of the participants showing off their creations:

Full Summer Reading Program Information Now Available!
Summer Reading 2010 at the Dedham Public Library runs from Monday, June 14th through Friday, August 20th. This year's theme is "Gogreen at your Library," and several of our activities are "green." As provided last summer, children will be able to sign up online to track their reading. A benefit of signing up online is that readers can post reviews of the books they have read.

New in the Children’s Room: Expanded Parent/Teacher Section
Our Parent/Teacher collection is now supplemented by donations from the Dedham Special Education Parent Advisory Council. The materials (books, DVDs, videos, and other educational information) will provide parents, guardians, and teachers a central place to access information about disabilities, special education, and community issues. We expect that the Parent/Teacher collection will grow over time as additional titles are added.

NEW! Saturday Story Times at Endicott Branch.
For ages 2 - 5. Classes meet the second Saturday in August at 10:30 am. Because we think the Saturday Story Times will be popular, we are asking interested patrons to register. Call either the Main Library (781-751-9283) or the Endicott Branch (781-751-9178) to sign up.
